How did you get started and what should people expect out of a Maya Loft dj set?
Growing up I was always fascinated by sounds in every aspect. I’d constantly be making playlists before understanding what being a DJ meant. I would find myself connecting two songs together and grabbing certain elements from a track and would put them side by side and play the playlists around my friends until one day I bought myself a controller and with YouTube tutorials I taught myself how to mix. I spent countless of hours locked in my room learning the principles of mixing until I was finally confident enough to upload mixes online and put myself out there and from then on I began this journey.
When attending one of my sets one should expect a mixture of techno and acid!
Influences?
My main influences include K-Hand, Jeff Mills, DJ Rush and Thomas P. Heckmann to name a few.
I am very influenced by Detroit based collective, Underground Resistance. I love the message that they send out within their music and everything they stand for, it’s very inspiring.
All these artist have and continue to push the boundaries sonically and artistically.
What are you listening to right now?
Right now I’ve been listening to a lot of
UFO95, dj genderfluid, Blawan, Shygirl and coucou chloe.
I enjoy listening to lots of ethereal and experimental stuff as well.
Current song on repeat
